HISTORY:
The Pan American League is a women’s organization established in 1947 to help deserving individuals with education, health and welfare endeavors. In keeping with the objectives of the Pan American League to promote the general welfare of deserving citizens of San Antonio, the organization established the PAL Scholarship Fund in 2009. The League committed resources t $1,000 scholarship(s) to qualifying female graduating seniors from Edgewood ISD.
PURPOSE:
The PAL Transition Scholarship is intended to assist four first generation female students with any college-related expenses as they transition to their fall semester in college immediately after graduating from high school.
CRITERIA:
If awarded, the student and immediate family members will be invited for a presentation luncheon in June or July, 2023.

CRITERIA:
- Student must be a Class of 2023 graduate from an Edgewwod ISD High School.
- Student must have a minimum 3.0 or B grade point average.
- Student must have been in attendance at least 90%.
- Student must plan to attend college in Fall 2023 and work towards earning a bachelor’s degree, associate's degree or certificate at a not-for-profit 2- or 4-year institution of higher education.
- Student must be a first-generation college student, i.e., the first in her family to earn a college degree.
- Student must have completed and submitted a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or TASFA (Texas Application for State Financial Aid).
- Student must submit a complete application on or before the deadline that consists of:
- Scholarship application form.
- A recommendation form from their high school counselor or their college advisor.
- A résumé
- A 200-word essay in which the student discusses the following:
- Why the student is applying for this scholarship.
- How the student anticipates she will give back to her community through her future educational and professional goals.
- The financial hardships the student and her family are facing as she prepares to enroll in college and how this scholarship will be used.
If awarded, the student and immediate family members will be invited for a presentation luncheon in June or July, 2023.
